Machine translation is a technology that overcomes language barriers in multilingual environments and is therefore key to safeguarding minority languages and linguistic diversity.
Document translation support (in areas such as administrations and companies in the sector). Time and costs are optimized and volume is maximized.
Translation of web content into multiple languages to internationalize Catalan companies, promote e-commerce and the social integration of newcomers by bringing the administration closer to the languages of the citizens.
Quality real-time translation for multilingual video games, conferences, social media conversations, chatbots.
Automatic subtitling of Catalan productions to promote their dissemination and of foreign content to add subtitles in Catalan.
To achieve these functionalities, AINA proposes to build and make available to the community translation models based on the latest technological advances between Catalan and other languages (also with few digital resources -low resources languages -) of interest to both industry and commerce (European languages, Chinese, etc.) or by geographical and social proximity (Aranese, languages of the peninsula or of immigration).
The project envisages the research and development of unsupervised training techniques suitable for machine translation, given the scarcity of existing data for most of these language pairs. The development of AINA’s translation technologies opens the door to having its own technological solutions, reducing dependence on the big technology companies. In this way it is guaranteed:

WITH THESE OBJECTIVES, ACTIONS ARE PROPOSED AS:
1. Training of latest generation translation models that incorporate at least Catalan and other languages. 2. Research and development of unsupervised techniques for training translation models. 3. Training of domain-adapted models, selected according to specific needs. 4. Integration with platforms and tools (facilitates the adoption of these technologies).
