Up to 85 proposals received to develop AI proofs of concept in Catalan

More than 50 companies have presented a total of 85 proposals to participate in the Aina Challenge , the program to accelerate the use and development of AI tools in Catalan promoted by the Catalan Government and developed by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) within the framework of the Aina Project , a successful participation that demonstrates the interest of the AI sector in promoting the use of Catalan in the field of language technologies.
Among the projects presented in the different challenges, those that focus on the fields of health, media and information, as well as on improving efficiency in public administration or strengthening Catalan in the field of education, stand out. All the solutions communicated respond to the fundamental objectives of the Aina Project and prioritize the social impact of the adoption of artificial intelligence.
The Aina Challenge call, endowed with a total of €1M, opened on March 24 and ended on April 24. Now, the Aina Challenge jury will determine which proposals will receive financial support to develop the beta-testings, as well as support from the Aina Project technical team.
The models generated within the framework of the Aina Project are an opportunity for the entire AI ecosystem to develop language technology solutions in Catalan. All resources are available openly through the Aina Kit .
About the Aina Project
The Aina Project generates and makes available to everyone linguistic resources, corpora and advanced models so that developers of AI-based applications can easily do so in Catalan, with the ultimate goal of being able to relate and live fully in Catalan also in the digital sphere.
Led by the Generalitat de Catalunya through the Secretaria de Polítiques Digitals of the Departament d’Empresa i Treball and in collaboration with the BSC, the Aina project is part of the Artificial Intelligence Strategy of Catalonia (Catalonia.AI), promoted by the Catalan Government to strengthen the Catalan AI ecosystem, promote the generation of knowledge and innovation in this area and encourage the creation of solutions based on this technology to improve the competitiveness of companies and people’s lives.
