Aina Project: Digital open resources for the Catalan language

The researchers from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center’s Language Technologies Unit , Javier Aula-Blasco , Carlos Escolano and Martí Llopart, explain at the VI Congress of Technological Sovereignty the impact of the open resources developed by the Aina Project . All three agree to emphasize the importance of Aina and the models developed to avoid and combat the biases that datasets used by other developers may contain.

At the same time, the language technologies published by the BSC-CNS, make use of the “control, traceability and understanding of the entire process” which, according to the researchers, requires the evaluation of the models. Aina continues to work on the development of open models both for speech synthesis and for other functionalities such as automatic translation or speaker recognition.

Currently, Aina is already working with other actors to apply the technologies developed as part of the project. In fact, according to the technical team, it is expected that in the coming months they will be able to make progress in their perfection, both in the area of speech and also in that of translation.
